There is something very powerful in a clean kitchen table.

I had given up the kitchen table several weeks ago when The Mister needed a place to study for his upcoming fantasy baseball draft. If you’re wondering how to survive a relationship with a man in fantasy sports (and how to give up your kitchen table for about a month: read this.

Well, last night was the big draft date. So, I left the apartment.

When he assembles the “war room,” filling the office desk with a TV, three laptops and an iPad, it’s best if I just vacate the property. For the time he is in this room he won’t be able to communicate about anything but the draft. I even offered during a previous draft to get him something to eat – and that was a huge mistake. Best to just let him alone.

I was promised that if I gave up the kitchen table for a month and the office for one night that everything would quickly be returned to normal. And it was. He spent the better part of Sunday morning setting both rooms up the way they had been before. He also helped to clean, do the dishes, make breakfast with me and spend some time just talking. It was wonderful.

So, I don’t mind giving up the kitchen table or the office or even my husband for a bit because I know I’ll get it all back, and it will be better than it was when I first released it all. And that’s because he appreciates it. That makes it worth it.
